Wwwwwoooooooowwwwwwwww🎉🎉🎉
I cannot believe nobody has commented on your card method of tree-height measurent. I have not come across this method before, but it is so simple. We are planning on using a varity of methods for a class of children to experiment with and this will definitely be one of them. Well done and thank you, belatedly.

Fuk my life
How are those thin gloves meant to stop him from getting cut?
As a new hopeful land steward of my modest 17 acres in Indiana, USA, I know that there are perfect native plants, that feed the entire ecology of the land, for any area and any type of soil that has not been decimated by construction or other human activities. Mother Nature rules the planet in perfect natural harmony. I must learn her rules and go along with them; I must test the soil so if I add plants (which will only be native for environmental reasons- see Doug Tallamy's watershed work and books), they need to be those selections that are suited to that type of soil. Thank you for an excellent video. Before this, I tried that water-in-the-jar method and not only did that not work, but now it seems rather gross there in the jar after hearing you speak so well about the minute composition of soil. Can't wait to dump that.
A good basic video but it's not a great idea to release the small mammals in the middle of a field in broad daylight

Can/should you use bait ?
You could but this may draw in birds and other predators. But you could counter that problem by using leafs and other items to disguise it.

Kindly explain how to take data for Shrub cover by quadrat method
yes, I was wondering the same thing Shabbir <3
I've sampled some bushy areas and usually we would put the quadrat under the shrub, additionally taking note of how much the shrub is covering our plot. In dense thickets we would just put it on top of the shrub
By this I MEANT THE PLANT!!!!
exactly what I was thinking

Great video, but earthworms are not all good. In forests, they do not stop the soil from becoming compressed, they actually cause compression in the most important layer. The humus layer is reduced significantly and topsoil (containing the majority of roots) is compressed. Gardens and agricultural fields are a different story. They are heavily cultivated, watered and the plants are generally shorter lived/cycled. Too many earthworms in forestry is a significant negative. Forest soil is often poor by definition, trees are normally the only thing people can economically grow in this poor soil. Earthworms impede regeneration by reducing the humus top layer. If there is no fertile seedbed, underwood and the future forest development is hindered. This causes less layering in the canopy and lowers the number of replacement saplings. Biodiversity decreases as a knock on effect. Castings don't hold moisture as well as humus and change the soil temperature at certain times. If there is less moisture in the seedbed, germination decreases. Development of saplings and the associated biodiversity is again impeded. Processing the organics into castings and lowering moisture levels in the top soil lowers the volume of beneficial fungi present. These fungi serve as food for animals and insects. Mycorhizal fungi associate with trees helping them get the most nutrients and water out of this poor soil. With lower volumes of fungi, biodiversity suffers.
decent video
nice explanation
